Treating Psoriasis

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a noncontagious chronic skin condition that occurs when skin cells reproduce too quickly, yielding extra skin cells that form patches of inflamed skin, causing pain, itching and, in some cases, limited motion. Psoriasis can appear anywhere on the body, but commonly affected areas are elbows, knees and scalp. Psoriasis often causes stress and impacts quality of life.

Treating Psoriasis with Phototherapy

Although there is no cure for psoriasis, our phototherapy products can help improve quality of life by reducing symptoms.

Phototherapy, also known as “light therapy,” is the use of ultraviolet light (UV) to slow the rate of skin cell production. During phototherapy, the affected skin area is exposed to UV light for a predetermined period, often fewer than 10 minutes. Light therapy typically clears skin in 20-25 sessions.1

National Biological Corporation manufactures a range of devices. Our most popular devices include the 6-foot PANOSOL 6 for full body psoriasis, the HANDISOL® for more moderate patches, and the DERMALUME 2X™ wand for small areas of psoriasis or scalp psoriasis treatment.

Our phototherapy devices are often covered by insurance.
